Lake Manyara

Lake Manyara

Lake Manyara Overview

Lake Manyara National Park is a small but incredibly diverse reserve, famous for its tree-climbing lions, massive flocks of flamingos, and breathtaking scenery. The park is nestled between the Great Rift Valley escarpment and the soda-rich Lake Manyara, creating a mix of savannah, forest, and wetland habitats that support a variety of wildlife.

The best time to visit is during the dry season, from July to October, when animals are easier to spot. However, the wet season, from November to June, offers excellent birdwatching opportunities as thousands of flamingos and other migratory birds gather along the lake’s shores. The dense groundwater forest also provides a unique setting for spotting elephants, hippos, and primates.

Lake Manyara Serena Safari Lodge offers stunning lake views and comfortable accommodations, while budget-conscious travelers can opt for camping options. Activities in the park include canoe safaris, cultural visits to nearby Maasai villages, and night drives that reveal the nocturnal side of the African bush.
