Nyungwe Forest National Park

Nyungwe Forest National Park

Nyungwe Forest National Park Overview

Nyungwe Forest National Park is one of the oldest rainforests in Africa and a haven for primate lovers. It is home to 13 primate species, including chimpanzees, L’Hoest’s monkeys, and the rare Angolan colobus monkeys. The park’s rich biodiversity also includes hundreds of bird species and unique orchids.

The best time to visit is from June to August and December to February when trails are less slippery. However, chimpanzee trekking is possible year-round.

Luxury accommodations include One&Only Nyungwe House, while budget options include Gisakura Guesthouse.

Visitors can enjoy chimpanzee trekking, the famous canopy walk—a suspended bridge offering breathtaking views of the rainforest—and birdwatching excursions to spot rare endemic species.
