Volcanoes National Park

Volcanoes National Park

Volcanoes National Park Overview

Volcanoes National Park is Rwanda’s most famous wildlife destination, best known for its population of endangered mountain gorillas. Situated in the Virunga Mountains, the park offers one of the best gorilla trekking experiences in Africa. Visitors can trek through dense bamboo forests to encounter these gentle giants in their natural habitat, a truly life-changing experience.

The best time to visit is during the dry seasons from June to September and December to February when trekking conditions are ideal. The wet season, from March to May and October to November, makes the trails more challenging but offers lush scenery.

Luxury lodges such as Bisate Lodge and Singita Kwitonda Lodge provide premium accommodations, while mid-range and budget options include Kinigi Guesthouse and Gorilla Solutions Lodge.

Beyond gorilla trekking, visitors can track golden monkeys, hike to the grave of Dian Fossey, or explore the scenic twin lakes of Ruhondo and Burera. Cultural experiences include visiting local communities and learning about Rwanda’s conservation efforts.
