Tsavo National Parks (East & West)

Tsavo is Kenya’s largest national park, divided into Tsavo East and Tsavo West. Tsavo East is known for its red elephants, which get their unique coloration from the park’s red volcanic soil, while Tsavo West boasts dramatic landscapes with volcanic formations, rolling hills, and scenic springs.

The best time to visit is June to October and January to March, as wildlife is more concentrated around water sources. The wet season, though offering lush scenery, can make certain areas difficult to navigate.

Lodges such as Finch Hattons in Tsavo West offer luxurious stays, while budget-friendly options include tented camps and self-catering campsites.

Game drives in Tsavo are known for their adventurous feel, with opportunities to spot lions, leopards, and large elephant herds. Other attractions include the Mzima Springs, where visitors can observe hippos and crocodiles in crystal-clear water, and the eerie lava fields of Shetani Lava Flow.
